Eye-pressure measurement

A measurement that can form part of glaucoma risk assessment

Eye-pressure measurement

What is this?

Eye-pressure measurement (tonometry) measures pressure inside the eye. The result is one part of assessing risk for conditions including glaucoma.

When can this test be useful?

  • Eye pressure varies during the day and between individuals.
  • High pressure does not automatically mean glaucoma, and normal pressure does not exclude it.
  • When needed, the measurement is combined with optic-nerve assessment, OCT or visual-field testing.

What can you expect?

We start with your reason for attending and relevant history, then perform only the measurements that fit the purpose of the visit. Findings and possible next steps are explained clearly.

What happens next?

The outcome may be reassuring, lead to follow-up, an updated correction or โ€” when needed โ€” advice to contact a GP or ophthalmologist.
